A few weeks ago I attended SOC’s performance at Rutgers New Brunswick’s community day. SOC, Spazz Out Crew, is a local up-and-coming music group that I have had the pleasure of styling for different events. They are a group of young, hardworking talented individuals.

I always thought pink was a color I could never pull off because of my complexion but after testing the waters a bit and trying different shades with lip liners, pink is no long an enemy of mine. I like wearing pink lipstick when I am going for a fun flirty look. I feel pink is one of the most popular lipstick made today, while there are thousands of shades pink as whole is extremely popular. Thinking back to when I was younger, I feel red lipstick was the color of choice, there will billions of shades of red, and now pink is definitely the shade of today!

I haven’t had a chance to try on all of these, and yes I continue to buy more lipsticks when I know there are about 20 at home I have yet to wear, SMH. #6 NYX’s Fig and #9 NYX’s Dolly Pink are my favorite. As you can see in the picture, #6 has be used and abused, and melted. It compliments my complexion very well, its a pink that I can grab without putting a lot of thought into it. #9 NYX’s- Dolly Pink is one of my favorite lip glosses (I think every NYX lip gloss I own is a favorite, you cant go wrong with them.) I love adding it over a neutral lip just to give it a little pop of color. The color is so rich that it can be worn by itself, and you won’t feel like you have greasy, shiny lips.

Last Friday I took the day off to spend with my girlfriends, while things did not go as planned I still had a good time and the weather was beautiful. That morning I got dressed real quick because I was rushing to see the movie Temptation but I had to wear what I picked out for the remainder of the day. Being that I was in such a rush I was surprised I loved the ensemble that I put together.

You can never go wrong with a neutral lip. While all neutrals do not work for all complexions there is one out there for everyone. I always go for a neutral when I am just not sure which lipstick will go with my eye makeup. I also opt for a neutral when I don’t want to wear a much of a color but I would like something on my lip.

#5 and #8 are my favorite neutral lipsticks by far. I always have one or the other in my purse (#8 is melting, smh), just in case I may forget to put on a lipstick when I am heading out. Some neutrals you may need a lipliner. Lipliners are always your friend, you can never go wrong with the right one. #2, #3, #9 and #10 I have never worn, I am not a fan of shimmer as you may know, but maybe one day I may wear them. #6 NYX’s Soft Matte Lip Cream is terrible. My friends and I went semi-crazy trying to get our hands on NYX’s Soft Matte Lip Creams, lucky I only splurged on two, these things are awful. They do not spread evenly, they just are a waste of money. I do not recommend these to anyone. I am not sure if NYX still has these available.
A neutral lipstick is something every woman needs in her makeup bag. You can never go wrong with the right neutral lip. With spring here and summer around the corner, take some time to test out different neutral lipsticks and find one that works for you.

I have been eyeing Nene Leake’s jeans for a while now. I love the way she wears the distressed jeans they look amazing on her. So me being me, I decided to create my own!
This weekend I had the opportunity to attend the meet & greet of fellow blogger, Naty, of A Love Affair with Fashion. Walking into the event I was not sure what to expect. I soon found out not only would I be meeting Naty but I would also be attending a Smashbox Master Class.
Naty was very friendly and personable, and of course looked stunning.
The Smashbox makeup artist picked one person from the group to receive a makeup makeover.
Melissa was the lucky winner.

The last weekend I spent in the house, I had to run a couple of errands on Sunday so I decided to be comfortable, AGAIN! Lately, sneakers have been my go-to option, they are just comfortable. And since I have not been doing to much over the weekends its an easy option. No muss, no fuss.
I have been thinking about getting this black turban for a while know, but I was not sure how it would suit me. But I love it. What do you think?

Purple lipsticks are pretty popular during all seasons, a deep purple in fall or winter, or a pastel purple in spring or summer. While all purples don’t work for everyone, there is a purple out there for everyone. Below are different shades of purple, not all of them work on me, I may have to alter them with a lip pencil to get them just right. My favorite lip pencil to use with purple lipsticks is maroon or burgundy in color.

All of these lipsticks have a slight hint of shimmer, the shimmer is not to bold because I am not a fan of shimmer at all.

My favorite of this bunch is #2, NYX’s Chole. It works great by itself or with #8 NYX’s Mega Shine Lip Gloss in African Queen. #3 Revlon’s Wild Orchid and #6 Black Radiance’s 5004 are very similar, if not an exact dupe of #2. So most of the time I use these interchangeably.
These lipsticks do not have any shimmer to them, but have a semi-matte or matte finish to them.

My favorite by far this winter was #12 MAC’s Rebel. Rebel is popular with many people, it gave you a bold lip, with out being to dark, or settling for red. Rebel tends to show up different on different skin tones, so I suggest trying it on before you purchase it. Although, I am sure you will love it if you want a lipstick that will stand out. #15 Wet n Wild’s 908 C was also a go-to color this winter, it was a purple with a hit of red, which compliments darker skin tones. I have not had a chance to wear #10 Nicka K’s Lavender Tint but I am looking forward to wearing it this spring/summer. I am thinking of pairing it with a maroon or burgundy lip pencil to deepen the color a bit. On darker skin a pastel color may show up chalky.
So be daring this spring/ summer and try a purple lipstick, I can assure you that you will not go wrong with the right choice.

On Friday, I celebrated my friend of 26+ years’ birthday. It was a chance to get rachet, and let loose, I can say I definitely did both. It has been a while since I had fun like that. I needed it. Sometimes, once a year, you need a day to let loose and be rachet.

On Sunday I had to run some errands and make a quick trip to the mall. It took me about an hour and a half to get dress. Why?, because I thought I wanted to get semi dressed up, but after trying on several different looks, I was not pleased, so I opted to just throw on something comfortable. Sneakers are have be huge trend for women within this last year, while a lot of women have been wearing them in the past, recently it has crossed over and been a style staple of its own. If you take a look at Instagram you will see how big the trend really is, even the celebrities that are usually in heels, have been seen wearing sneakers.
*Fashion Alert: For my plus size readers- ASOS.com has just added a new brand, Inspire, to their Curve+ line. Inspire appears to be on the cheaper end of things, being that ASOS Curve+ can get expensive. They do not have a lot of item posted at this time, but I’m sure in the next few weeks they will have a lot more. I have my I on a few of the items that are posted!
